Peru - Finca El Limon / Gesha / Washed (Green Coffee) 1KG
Grown in the highlands of Cajamarca in northern Peru, this washed Gesha is produced by Edwin Manchay Cruz at Finca El Limón, a small two-hectare farm located in the province of Jaén.
Situated at approximately 1,950 metres above sea level, Finca El Limón is home to around 5,000 coffee trees, primarily Caturra and Gesha. Coffee is cultivated alongside plantains, corn and yuca, reflecting Edwin's commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and maintaining a diverse farming environment.
As a member of the Alto Amazónico Association, Edwin has continued to refine his approach to specialty coffee production, placing particular emphasis on traceability, agricultural management and processing consistency. His work reflects the growing reputation of Cajamarca as an important specialty coffee-producing region, where high elevations and favourable growing conditions contribute to exceptional quality.
For this particular lot, the Gesha cherries undergo an extended 70-hour fermentation before being depulped. The coffee is then thoroughly washed to remove the remaining mucilage and carefully dried to achieve the desired moisture content.
This combination of extended cherry fermentation and washed processing encourages the development of expressive fruit characteristics while preserving the clarity, elegance and structure typically associated with washed Gesha coffees.
In the cup, this Gesha presents a delicate yet vibrant expression, with fresh nectarine and cooked red grape providing layers of juicy fruit sweetness. Subtle vanilla undertones introduce a soft, confectionery quality, while bright, tangy acidity brings freshness and definition to the flavour profile. A gentle sugary sweetness rounds out the experience, creating a balanced and refined cup.
An elegant washed Gesha showcasing expressive stone fruit, delicate sweetness and vibrant acidity, with a clean and lingering finish.
Expected flavour profile: Nectarine, red grape, vanilla.
