We’re excited to introduce a standout coffee from the Jack Murat family — Batch 14.
Grown in Mareeba, Far North Queensland, this lot comes from a farm we’ve had the privilege of visiting and connecting with the people behind the coffee. The Murat family has farmed this land for over 100 years, and since transitioning to coffee in 2014, they’ve been steadily refining their craft, blending tradition with innovation to shape a new chapter for Australian-grown specialty.
Batch 14 is made up of their smallest screen-size lots — size 14 and under — primarily Catuai Peaberries. It’s a unique blend of experimental lots, naturally processed coffees that have undergone extended fermentations. Some lots were sealed in tanks for anaerobic fermentation, while others were left to ferment in open air, encouraging controlled oxidation and added depth.
The result is one of the most expressive and memorable coffees we’ve tasted from the Jack Murat. Elegant and layered, it carries a graceful floral character with a lovely tartaric acidity, reminiscent of wine. A reflection of careful processing, small-lot curation, and the growing potential of Australian terroir.
